WELCOME TO THE PRODIGAL SON MINISTRIES WEB SITE

Prodigal Son Ministries looks to promote Christian ministry in prison, to care and support young offenders and ex-offenders and to use them in Christian ministry when they are released. Based at Ashfield prison in Bristol, PSM has set up pioneering projects to support young people in prison and help them through the difficult period of reintegration into society.

Prodigal Son Ministries was established by the Chaplaincy at Ashfield Young Offenders Institute, is a registered charitable trust and relies entirely on giving, sponsorship and independent funding.

26th November 2008 - Mentor Taster Evening
Our first Mentor Taster Eveneing at Ashfield was a huge success! Around 50 guests enjoyed a relaxed, no-obligation introduction to Ashfield, the work of our charity and a chance to get a taste of what the 'Friends on the Out' (FotO) Mentoring Scheme is all about

After introductions and some background on Ashfield and FotO from Senior Chaplain, Nick Hay, a fantastic buffet dinner was served. During the evening we also heard moving words from Joe, a former inmate at Ashfield and current FotO Mentee, about why having a FotO Mentor is so important for him.

Joe's father and his FotO Mentor also spoke along with John Stacy-Marks, Community Chaplain for South Wales, as to the impact that Mentoring has had on them.

To find out more about FotO and how you can get involved as a Mentor or in support of the wider work of PSM please contact Phil Kelly
15th October 2007 - Congratulations to the new FotO Mentors!
This weekend saw the conclusion of the second training course for 'Friends on the Out' Mentors. Many congratulations to the 16 newly trained Mentors who completed the training!

The next stage of the process is identifying young persons and matching them as Mentees with the Mentors.

19th September 2007 - New Project Manager
Prodigal Son Ministries are pleased to welcome Philip Kelly as the new Project Manager.

Philip joins the team with much experience in working with young people and in mentoring. He and his family are new to the Bristol region and are enjoying getting to know the city and surrounding areas.

Philip is taking over as Project Manager from John Kendall, who is increasing his focus on DJing and teaching DJ. John is continuing his involvement with Ashfield both as a volunteer Mentor with PSM and in running the prison radio station, Lockdown FM.
